You can join Save The Bay to help pull up invasive plants and maintain beautiful new native plants just planted over the winter! The organization planted a recently completed habitat slope as part of restoration and habitat enhancement at the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge Ravenswood Ponds near Menlo Park's Bedwell Bayfront Park. Native plants are the backbone helping to protect the Restoration Project's restoration areas from invasive weeds that threaten to crowd out native plants and deprive all of the species (including humans!) that benefit from healthy salt marshes.
This site has rapidly transformed following the Restoration Project levee breach event in late 2023, opening up an impounded salt pond to Bay waters. This is a crucial moment for establishing healthy upland salt marsh habitat. Save The Bay is making a big push to put as many native plants in the ground as they can before invasive plants can take over. The native plants you will be putting into the ground will help transform the land, giving wildlife good homes.

NOTE: This program is on a levee that is about a little over a mile walk out over a dirt trail from the starting point. There is a flush toilet bathroom at a nearby parking lot and will be a porta-potty onsite.
Please dress according to the weather, bring a water bottle and a snack. Gloves, hand picks, foam kneepads and/or other necessary tools will be provided. Pulling invasive plants can involve bending, lifting and walking over uneven terrain. Programs may be cancelled in the event of heavy winds, poor air quality and/or lightning. Save The Bay strives to include volunteers of all abilities in our programs. If you have specific access needs, please reach out to [email protected] to coordinate.
